mirabai, a professional-level women’s chamber ensemble, is excited to announce the inaugural mirabai Young Women Scholars program for high school women interested in the art of choral conducting and teaching. Eight young women will form a specialized educational track at the Choral Music Experience Institute for Choral Teacher Education on June 18-22, 2018 at Michigan State University led by mirabai Artistic Director Sandra Snow.
This innovative educational experience will pair each young woman with a member of mirabai in a one-to-one mentoring relationship. Scholars will enjoy private conducting instruction and group classes in score analysis, aural skills, and rehearsal technique, as well as observing professional teachers from around the country in a masterclass setting. The goal is to provide these young women the opportunity to integrate with current teachers and explore the choral profession as a career path.
The mirabai Young Women Scholars program ties to mirabai’s mission of supporting equality among women in choral music. By providing significant role models of women working as conductors, singers, and composers, mirabai seeks to engage young women’s desire to pursue a choral music career in their early years.
mirabai Artistic Director and MSU Professor of Music Sandra Snow says, “I am excited by the aspirational possibilities of the mirabai Young Women Scholars program. The opportunity to identify young women who are passionate about choral music and providing early training, mentorship, and leadership is exactly the kind of experience members of mirabai are committed to producing.”
