CME Faculty: Doreen Rao, PhD (Canada),
Lee Kesselman (USA)
Mandy Miller (Scotland)

Saturday July 17 – Tuesday July 20, 2010

Join us for a four-day developmental course in the teaching and conducting of choral music on the beautiful campus of Stirling University in Scotland

Conductors meet for a 4-day CME professional development course focusing on repertoire, singing technique, conducting and choral pedagogy at Stirling University. The conducting course will highlight the music of the Celtic traditions for treble and mixed voice choirs as well as recent choral works by CME composers. Focus will be on music accessible to Treble Choirs in Primary and Secondary Schools and beginning/intermediate repertoire for mixed choirs.

The Course emphasizes Conducting Technique with an emphasis on the essential elements of Choral Teacher Education, including:

  • Choral Repertoire (multicultural, folkloric and contemporary choral music)
  • Vocal Development (a breathing and movement based approach to singing)\
  • Score Study and Analysis (a score preparation method that works!)
  • Conducting (gesture as listening, teaching, performing)
  • Rehearsal Pedagogy (focusing on non verbal techniques and reflective practice)
  • Conducting Master Class with Doreen Rao
